Curriculum

The course Leadership and Community Organizing offered by the University for International Cooperation (UCI), is designed to strengthen collaborative leadership and community organization skills in people working in social, environmental and community contexts. The course has a duration of 80 hours, integrating 40 theoretical and 40 practical hours, and is taught in virtual mode, combining synchronous and asynchronous activities.

The focus of the course is to promote sustainable and regenerative development and participatory governance in local communities. Through active methodologies such as project-based learning, case analysis and group and individual reflection, participants will acquire tools to foster participation, associativity and the construction of strategic alliances.

The course also addresses topics such as assertive communication, effective consultation and the development of shared visions, with the aim of empowering community leaders to drive positive change in their environments.

The course is part of the SUREST Project - Sustainable Rural Education Strategy, an initiative co-financed by the European Union's ERASMUS+ program that promotes cooperation between universities and local actors in Costa Rica, Colombia, Italy and Spain.

SUREST aims to strengthen institutional and community capacities for the development of sustainable and resilient rural territories, integrating Farm to Table, Zero Waste, One Health, among others, and promoting regenerative practices in agricultural production, local trade, rural tourism and environmental management.

The project promotes training, innovation and technical support processes aimed at improving sustainable livelihoods, fostering local leadership and strengthening the links between academia and rural communities. Within this framework, the “Leadership and Community Organization” course contributes directly to SUREST's objectives by offering tools for collective action, participatory governance and the positive transformation of territories.
