Frequently Asked Questions

The University

Yes, the University for International Cooperation has been authorized to operate by the National Council of Private University Education (CONESUP) of Costa Rica since 1994. The curricula of the undergraduate and graduate degrees issued by UCI are also officially recognized by CONESUP, according to the scopes described in the Agreement of Nomenclature of Degrees and Titles in force.

UCI's educational model is based on the pillars of humanism and the socio-reconstructionist, socio-formative and technological approaches:

- Through the socio-reconstructionist approach, the aim is for students to become agents of their own knowledge, in permanent interaction with their social, economic and political environment, with the help of their peers and teachers, generating the tools that allow them to become a permanent producer of knowledge, which they can share and make available to others.

- Through the socio-formative approach, students are encouraged to achieve the maximum harmonious development of their potential in a socially responsible and ethically committed manner.

- And, through a technological approach, we employ virtual educational platforms designed to develop strategies that enable students to address and solve, in a coherent and effective manner, specific problems related to their professional field.

Our constructivist pedagogical model strengthens the relationship of the virtual learning community that seeks cooperation and collaboration in the construction of new knowledge by sharing and interacting among peers. Thus achieving meaningful learning for learners.

The time invested in the program is relative to the particular conditions of each student. However, a good estimate is that, on average, the time invested will be around 15 - 20 hours per week.

Consult here the list of countries adhered to the Hague Convention abolishing the requirement of Legalization of foreign public documents and enabling the issuance of Apostille certificates: https://www.hcch.net/es/instruments/conventions/status-table/?cid=41

The process of legalization in the country of issuance of a professional degree varies according to the country of origin. However, in general, interested persons have two options:

If the country of origin of the title is a signatory to the Hague Convention, only the Hague apostille is required, instead of consular legalization. The list of signatory countries to the Convention can be consulted at https://www.hcch.net/es/instruments/conventions/status-table/?cid=41

If the country of origin is not a party to the Hague Convention, the conventional legalization procedure applied by the country of issuance applies, as well as the procedure at the respective Costa Rican Consulate, when applicable.

NOTE: This procedure does not imply recognition or official equivalency of degrees and titles, nor does it imply authorization to practice in the country. For this, the interested person must apply the current legalization procedure, described in the Office of Recognition and Equalization of the National Council of Rectors of Public Universities of Costa Rica (CONARE) at https://ore.conare.ac.cr/xhtml/paginas/info/instrucciones.xhtml

The Agreement for the creation of the nomenclature for degrees and titles of public higher education (CONARE, 2004) and adopted by the regulatory authority of private universities (CONESUP), establishes that in order to obtain a Master's degree, it is required to have instrumental proficiency in a second language. Can describe experiences, events, wishes and aspirations and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans”. (Council of Europe. (2004). European Framework of Reference for Languages).

Instrumental proficiency is proven by presenting verifiable evidence of possessing at least the level of proficiency described, either through:

1. Generally accepted proficiency tests such as Duolingo (at least 54/100 points), TOEFL (at least +70 points).
2. Professional diplomas of studies in countries with languages other than their native language, bilingual high school diplomas of secondary studies or certificates of intermediate technician in any language.
